Married since 2016, which in Gen X terms means we’ve stuck around longer than most bands stayed together. Not fireworks. Just two people who kept showing up, running on caffeine and whatever’s left of our executive function, through Ottawa winters and questionable life decisions alike.
We’ve got one kid and one very opinionated dog, and most days it’s genuinely hard to tell which one requires more snacks or is currently ignoring us on purpose. Coffee is load-bearing in this house. Somewhere between the ADHD, the school forms nobody filled out on time, and the dog demanding a walk at the exact worst possible moment, caffeine is less a beverage and more a personality trait we both share.
We’re not a Pinterest family.
We’re more of an “everyone’s alive, someone remembered to defrost something for dinner, the dog hasn’t eaten anything she shouldn’t have, today” family. Low bar, cleared daily, calling it a win.
We grew up on landlines and unsupervised bike rides and somehow ended up as the responsible ones, which still feels like a clerical error. But here we are. Ottawa, married, outnumbered by dependents with four legs and two, running the whole thing on more coffee than the manual recommends and more love than we’d ever admit out loud.
